fifty states travel

planning for state two: south carolina

Ok, ladies and gents, I said that, as part of the fall bucket list, I’d plan a trip to the next state on my list. So, I’ve officially begun the planning for state two: South Carolina.

And the place that I have my heart set on? Charleston.

I’ll blame Julia Engel for this recent desire to visit Charleston. That, and her Charleston Guide.

I’ve looked through it and I’ll be pulling some inspo from it. I’ll be gathering the rest from endless Pinterest searches for advice/posts from fellow travel bloggers.

Things to Do

I actually have a few things that I’d like to do already, including a bike ride around Charleston to visit some beautiful sites, including the iconic Rainbow Row.

I’d like to explore all of the streets, strolling or biking past the gorgeous houses, snapping to take tons of pictures of the beautiful homes.

I’d also love to visit the Charleston City Market, the Charleston Tea Plantation, and The Battery and White Point Gardens.

If I was going to be there for two nights, I’d def. opt to visit  Boone Hall Plantation because it looks gorgeous (and I’m obsessed with old, charming places like that).

Places to Eat

I love food. I REALLY love food.

And looking through Julia’s food guide already has my mouth watering.

I can’t wait to check out some local coffee shops and even some yummy ice cream when I go biking around town. I’m totes down to check out The Eclectic Cafe and Vinyl for a delicious latte in the morning and then heading to Jeni’s later that afternoon for some ice cream.

For the main meals? I’ll def. take Julia’s word for it. But I’d also like to see what else is out there.

I like using Yelp for ideas but also like to stumble into a place when I’m prepared to nom on some lunch. Now dinner? I’d like to make reservations or have an idea as to where I’d like to be.

At least…for one of the nights.

Places to Sleep

When it comes to sleeping, I kind of like to splurge. That’s one thing that is a bit odd about me.

When I purchase clothes, I stay under $60 on most instances. At times, I have to go above but it’s mostly for shoes (since I have such small feet I kind of have to get what I can get).

However, when I vacation, I like to be luxurious.

Adam and I tend to use our Amex to book nice hotels or trips. I’ve grown quite used to it and like the perks that booking through Amex gets us.

Zero George Street and Belmond Charleson Place are def. on the top of my list.

But I’d also like to check out 86 Cannon, since Julia recommended it.

When to Visit

Now that I know what I want to do, where I want to sleep, and what kinds of foods I want to nom on, I should start thinking about when I want to go.

I’d truly like to see some fall foliage and, living in Florida, I won’t see it. I’m not too sure how much fall foliage Charleston will have, but it’d be nice to visit in November.

We’ll see, I guess!

So, has anyone done a girl’s trip to Charleston before?
